FAQ

Due to the recent instability of BGA, the following temporary rules apply for the entire Qualification Stage.

For the Main Stage, we plan to return to the original rules if BGA issues are resolved by then.

1. Default Match Format

The default format for all matches is Real-time, Slow speed.

Reason: Real-time mode allows a game to be converted into Turn-based if BGA crashes, making it possible to continue the match instead of restarting.

2. Optional Tournament Format

If both players agree, they may play the match using a Tournament game (15 minutes per player).

Note: Tournament games cannot be converted into Turn-based mode.

3. If BGA Crashes* During a Real-time Game

If a Real-time match is interrupted due to a BGA outage:

  • The game must be converted to Turn-based mode so it can be resumed as soon as possible.
  • Even though original time controls no longer apply, both players must continue the game as if it were still Real-time, making moves within a reasonable time.
  • The game should be finished as soon as possible, not stretched over many hours or days.
  • Players must not use Turn-based mode to gain any unfair advantage.

4. If BGA Crashes* During a Tournament Game

If a Tournament game is interrupted and cannot be resumed, there are only two official outcomes:

  • Mutual Agreement
If both players explicitly agree on the winner based on the game position at the moment of interruption, that result is accepted.
  • No AgreementReplay
If players do not agree on the winner, or if there is any doubt, the game must be replayed from the beginning.

Important:

The DAZ will not review complaints about interrupted Tournament games and will not analyse board positions.

This avoids subjective decisions and keeps the process clear and simple.

* BGA Crash — a situation where BGA’s servers stop working or freeze, making it impossible for players to take moves even though their own internet connection is fine.

In case of doubt, BGA’s server logs for that time period may be checked to confirm whether a crash occurred.

Note:

* Double elimination format means a player is eliminated only after two match losses

Each match is played as Best of 3 or Best of 5, depending on the stage.

Match formats:

  • Qualification, League Stage, Round of 16 – Best of 3
  • Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, Bronze Match, Final – Best of 5

Each game is played in a 2-player BGA mini-tournament with a 15-minute timer per player.

If both players agree, they may play a Slow Real-Time game instead of a tournament.

Each player must play one match per week.

You must contact your opponent directly and agree on a day and time.

The full schedule and list of pairings are available at Qualifications page

Once you agree on a match time, you must enter it in the shared Google Sheet.

All registered players have received access via email (check your spam folder).

If you did not receive the link, contact carcassonne.gg@gmail.com.

If no agreement is reached by Friday 23:59 UTC, both players must contact the admins (carcassonne.gg@gmail.com) and explain what efforts were made to schedule the match.

If a player does not contact their opponent before Friday 23:59 UTC, they will receive a warning 🟨

Three warnings result in an automatic match loss 🟥

The match should be played as a 2-player tournament, 15 minutes per player.

  • The player who has a BGA Premium subscription must create the tournament.

  • If both players have Premium, the tournament must be created by the player listed first in the match pairing.

  • If the error is found when 59 or fewer tiles remain, this game must be played to completion. After that, a new tournament must be created with the correct settings for games 2 and 3.

The system automatically retrieves match results from BGA and updates the website.

If the result shown on the website is incorrect, use the “Report an Issue” button to send the correction

Players must play their games independently and without any external help.

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Coaching or receiving advice during a game
  • Using tile counters, spreadsheets, apps, or notes
  • Any memory aids or assistance

Players are responsible for avoiding unintentional help or unfair advantages.
Violation of fair play rules may lead to disqualification.

A player runs out of time during a game

That player loses the current game.

The match continues if not yet decided.

A player does not show up for the match

If a player is more than 15 minutes late, report this using the “Report an Issue” button.

Players must reschedule and complete the match the same or following week.

The player who was late receives a warning 🟨

A player is blocked by their opponent on BGA

Both players must ensure that their opponent is not blocked on BGA.

This can happen if the profile setting “My opinion about this player” is set to “I dislike playing with this player”.

If a match cannot be started due to blocking, report it 15 minutes after the scheduled start time using the “Report an Issue” button.

The player who blocked the opponent receives a warning 🟨

Important:

If a player receives a third warning for any combination of violations, they automatically lose the match 🟥

Warnings do not reset between rounds.
